In January 2018 I joined the Carina Press team as a freelance acquisitions editor. Carina Press is Harlequin’s digital-first adult fiction single-title imprint, which publishes all subgenres of romance, including contemporary, erotic, science fiction, fantasy and more. I’m excited to work with a publisher that’s willing to mix it up. If the book of your heart fits into a niche that has little shelf space in a traditional bookstore, Carina Press is eager to take a look.
I read romances ranging from sweet to erotic, from playful to angsty, but I don’t acquire mysteries or urban fantasy. Fantastic dialogue and excruciating sexual tension are must-haves. LGBTQ can run the gamut from realistic to ménage+. I’m especially interested in contemporary, erotic and historical, as well as paranormal, sci-fi and fantasy romances that hook me with traditional tropes. Do you have a fresh take on a classic? Bring on bodyguards, homecomings, relationships of convenience, “gay for you,” reformed bad boys, reunited lovers…
Here are the 2019 wishlists for all of Carina Press’s acquiring editors, including me!
