Workshops

Since 2009, I have been invited to present writing workshops at venues around the country. I’ve been praised for my engaging “editing” method, geared toward an interactive experience. For example, if I’m discussing pitches, I ask attendees to submit pitches that I critique on the fly. This is beneficial to those brave individuals, but it also serves as a jumping-off point to demonstrate concepts to everyone in attendance.

Available workshops are:

  • The Tiny Art of Elevator Pitches: How to Craft Them and How to Use Them — My classic workshop on using the four arcs or romance to craft the perfect pitch
  • From Clichés to Keepers: The Essentials of a Great First Chapter — Creating a solid first impression while planting the seeds to make readers eager for more
  • More Than Research: Balancing Fact and Fiction in Historical Romance — For any writer who struggles with the balance between research and a compelling story
  • Snakebite Scenes and Hollywood Plots: Adding Emotional Action — How high drama can initiate contact and intensify passion between romance protagonists
  • The Sweet Sixteen: Enhancing Characters Through Meyers-Briggs — Apply the principles of personality types to deepen realistic, consistent characterization
  • Both Sides Now: From Romance Author to Romance Editor — Where I present a primer on the romance industry from both an artistic and business perspective
